Hi, welcome to digital field notes.

I’m Dita. Happy to have you here.

As a newsletter on Substack, digital field notes explores ways to humanise a tech-saturated world. It is born from a quest to write more humane stories about technology, having mostly approached it as a financialised product during my time as a tech journalist.

But to stop there would be to capture the spirit of digital field notes partially. It is a much larger project. I’m building it with the idea of it being a media brand—one that is digital-first and multi-platform. It aims to serve people seeking meaningful conversations about a changing world.

I’m utilising my training in journalism and digital anthropology to help you notice changes happening in the world, how those changes are affecting you, and hopefully, help you navigate them better, too.

If you find that work valuable, consider being a subscriber.

The world is changing fast.

About the author

I’m a freelance journalist and writer, based in Bali, Indonesia, where I was born and raised. I cover the intersection between technology, business, and culture.

I used to cover the Indonesian and Southeast Asian startup industry for The Ken, a Bangalore-based business and tech media. Before that, I was a business reporter for the Indonesian national newspaper The Jakarta Post, covering banking and the stock market.

I have a Master’s degree in Digital Anthropology from the University College London, where I wrote my dissertation on the neoliberal subjectivity of Indonesian venture capitalists. That work received a distinction. For my Bachelor’s, I studied Communication with a specialisation in Media Studies at the University of Indonesia, where I graduated with the highest GPA in my department.
